MRS CATHY EWING, Principal

Welcome to the Nelson College for Girls website.  We hope that you will find here information that will give you a sense of all that our school can offer your daughter, in both academic and co-curricular activities.  We pride ourselves on providing a world class education for our young women in a very caring and supportive family environment.

Nelson College for Girls is a school with a very proud history.  In its 129 years it has produced young women who have gone into the world with confidence and a sense of pride in achieving to the best of their abilities.  Often they have been inspired by the successes of the women who have preceded them.  Our motto 'Pietas, Probitas et Sapientia' - Loyalty, Honesty and Wisdom - sums up well the values and essence of our school.

Nelson College for Girls offers its students the opportunity for a single sex education.  Educational research shows clearly that girls educated in a single sex environment appear to achieve better academically in a full range of subjects, including the sciences and mathematics.  They also fully participate in a wide range of co-curricular activities, with great enthusiasm and success.  As young women progress through the school, there is also considerable opportunity for leadership and the school recognises the importance of fostering the self-confidence and sense of pride that comes from providing these leadership opportunities.

In addition to the benefits of single sex education, our school also offers the opportunity for girls to share some senior classes with boys of Nelson College, through the close relationship between our schools.  This brings mutual benefits to both schools.

The great strength of Nelson College for Girls lies in the calibre of its staff.  They have a strong commitment to providing our students with a holistic education.  They are passionate about their curriculum subjects and therefore foster a love of learning in our young women.  They also create a very caring learning environment so that the pastoral needs of our students are also catered for.

We welcome you to this website and invite you to visit the College to see the information on these pages in action.  We know that you will find a vital community that your daughter would be proud to belong to.
