Application process

THE FIRST STEP – where do you begin?

Please download, read and complete the Application Form. You will also need to send us the following documents:

A set of your recent school reports

A piece of writing from you (written without  help).This should be at least one full page in length in which you tell us about yourself, the subjects you like to study and why you would like to come to New Zealand

A reference from your current school – from your Principal or one of your teachers

A recent passport photograph

These documents should be emailed to June Laird in the International Office.

Please note that Nelson College for Girls reserves the right to contact previous schools attended by the applicant.

All international students require Travel & Medical Insurance and we strongly recommend Uni-care’s NZ Student Plan. This policy provides cover which is fully compliant with Code of Practice requirements and we are very happy to arrange this for you. See www.uni-care.org for details.

 

THE SECOND STEP – we assess your application

If your application is successful, we will email the following documents:

Offer of Place

Invoice with payment details

Copy of our Refund Policy

 

THE THIRD STEP – payment of school fees

Once full school fees have been received by the school, we will email you the following documents which you will need to include in your Student Visa application:

Receipt for fees paid

A further copy of the Offer of Place

 

THE FOURTH STEP – what next?

You will now need to apply for your Student Visa which you must have before you come to New Zealand. See www.immigration.govt.nz for details or alternatively you can contact your nearest New Zealand Embassy or High Commission.

 

THE FIFTH STEP – nearly there!

Now you can book your flights, but please don’t forget to let us know your flight arrival details so that we can arrange for you to be met and welcomed at Nelson airport! Click here for term dates and calendar.

 

CODE OF PRACTICE

Nelson College for Girls has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International students published by NZQA. Copies of the Code are available on request from this institution or from the NZQA website at www.nzqa.govt.nz.  The Code of Practice pamphlet is also available in different languages and provides important information for international students and their families. This is available on the NZQA website at Code of Practice resources in different languages.

 

IMMIGRATION

Full details of immigration requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying, and reporting requirements are available from Immigration New Zealand and can be viewed on their website at www.immigration.govt.nz.

 

ELIGIBILITY FOR HEALTH SERVICES

Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that treatment.  Full details on entitlements to publicly-funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health, and can be viewed on their website at www.moh.govt.nz.

 

ACCIDENT INSURANCE

The Accident Compensation Corporation provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may still be liable for all other medical and related costs. Further information can be viewed on the ACC website at www.acc.co.nz.

 

MEDICAL AND TRAVEL INSURANCE

International students must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while in New Zealand. The school reserves the right to approve the insurance provider.
