Whether you intend pursuing a performance career in the arts, or simply wish to enjoy these creative and stimulating subjects as part of your education, you'll find we share a passion, knowledge and enthusiasm for the Arts at Nelson College for Girls.

Music

The College has about 14 visiting teachers who provide a range of musical skills.  In 2011 the Jazz Band won a gold medal at Southern Jam. They also participate regularly in school activities providing feature performances at special functions.

Nelson College for Girls also has close links with the Nelson School of Music, the oldest independent music school in New Zealand.

Students participate in House Drama and Music events as well as Southern Jam, Big Sing, Rockquest, Chamber Music Festival and College productions with Nelson College.  Members of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and Nelson Symphony Orchestra also hold workshops for the students at the College.  Recitals are held by senior students as part of their NCEA subject.

Students participate in House Drama and Music events as well as Stage Challenge and the bi-annual production with Nelson College.  Performances are held by senior students as part of their NCEA subject.

Kapa Haka

A group practise regularly as a co-curricular activity and take part in regional and national competitions.
