SCHOOL HOMESTAY ACCOMMODATION
In the school's homestay accommodation, an international student is integrated into a family to enable her to expand her English language skills and be part of the New Zealand culture.
On arrival in Nelson, the School Homestay Co-ordinator and Homestay family will meet the student at the airport. The School Homestay Co-ordinator maintains regular contact with both the Homestay family and the student to support the time she is studying at Nelson College for Girls.
The School Homestay Co-ordinator arranges for a student to live with a family who will provide a home away from home environment to enable her to improve her English. The family will provide three meals a day, a bedroom with a desk, internet access, and support her with school work which includes attending parent interviews and liaising with the teaching staff. As part of the homestay family, the student will be included in outings so that she has the opportunity to learn more about the area she is living and studying in.
The School Homestay Co-ordinator also arranges for boarding students in Clarice Johnstone House to stay with a family when this facility is closed during school holidays. The Homestay family collects the student at the end of each term at Clarice Johnstone House and returns at the beginning of the next term. During the school holidays the student will be part of the homestay’s family and participate in the household’s activities.
