Nelson Experience
Nelson Experience is a course especially designed for short-stay International Students to develop an appreciation and knowledge of the Nelson Region through participating in a range of outdoor pursuits.
The activities may include mountain biking, climbing, abseiling, sailing, snorkelling, sea kayaking, tramping and horse riding. A combination of school facilities and equipment, local venues and outside providers is used. The class meets one afternoon a week for three hours. This is an optional course for Terms 1+2, and in Terms 3+4, it is compulsory for short stay students (6 months or less) to be involved in the programme.
Extended Activities
Near the end of Term 4, when New Zealand students are having National Examinations, the Nelson Experience group participate in "extended activities".The students take part expeditions which might include sea kayaking in the Abel Tasman National Park and tramping in Kahurangi National Park. This provides an opportunity for planning food requirements, learning how to cope in different weather conditions, clothing needs and safety requirements. The opportunity to learn about group dynamics, organisational skills and leadership are positive outcomes from these expeditions. The whole planning process is documented and approved prior to departure and the expeditions are all fully supervised. Click here to read about the activities on this programme.
The cost of the Extended Activities Programme is included in the school Tuition Fee.
