Student Centre - Activities

It's about joining in! Whether you seek personal development though the adventure of voyage at sea, a chance to meet new people and dance dance dance, or you want to make a real difference in the world, this is the place to be! Check out how you too can get involved.

Activities we love...
On-board the Spirit of Adventure.

Spirit of Adventure

When you meet someone who's just returned from a voyage on the Spirit of Adventure, you're bound to think they've gone mad at sea or you've just seen the effects of what too many energy drinks can do.

The answer is neither. To take part in a Spirit of Adventure voyage is an adventure of a lifetime.

For ten days a canvas hammock (three bunks high) is bed, your gear is somehow squashed into a tiny drawer and the communal living is, well, communal. The anticipation of getting to know the other 39 voyagers is soon forgotten as you get to know your new found friends.

Each voyage has its own special memories and people that make it an experience of personal growth.

Highlights for some of our girls have included seeing dolphins, climbing the mast, hanging out on the bow spit, the 6am swim, on-shore trips to Great Barrier Island and getting to know the 50 others on-board from all over New Zealand.

  Let's Dance!

Junior Dances

The Junior Dances are always a social highlight on the Nelson College for Girls Calendar. It is a chance for Year 9 and 10 students from Nelson College for Girls and Nelson College to enjoy a night at either school hall, dancing to the latest sounds. The dances are held three times throughout the year and are run by Mr Millar and the Year 13 Social Committee. Senior Dances are also held twice a year by Nelson College for years 11 to 13.

Canoeing at Nelson Lakes National Park.

Outdoor Education

The Outdoor Education and Physical Education Classes give the girls many opportunities to experience the outdoors in the Nelson region.
