Making Career Enhancing Choices!

The Careers Department organises visitors throughout the year to assist students with career choices.

Year 10
During the year, all Year 10 students will have the opportunity to attend talks by visiting speakers and some students can elect to enrol in STAR courses.
Year 11
All Year 11 students take part in a FutureSmart programme for one hour each week taught by Careers Education staff.
Its purpose is to broaden students' education, by filling the gaps not covered in academic subjects. The topics covered in this course include self exploration and career awareness, curriculum vitae preparation, course selection and study skills. During the FutureSmart programme qualification entries will be taken, Curriculum Handbooks issued, and there will be opportunities for discussion on curriculum choices for the following year. Time management, goal setting and study skills will be emphasised throughout the year.
This programme will help students move successfully through Year 11 by supporting their studies and helping them make wise choices for their future.
Year 12
Careers Education staff will facilitate a programme for all Year 12 students which will include the opportunity for each student to have an individual career session. An independent approach to career planning will be developed, with full information on future choices, including tertiary institutes, the costs, job opportunities and accommodation.
There will be opportunities for STAR courses, work placement, a 'Student for a Day' experience at NMIT and a visit to a career expo.
Students can access information through the College's intranet system including further career information, vacancies, timelines for visiting speakers and upcoming careers events which are arranged by the Careers Advisor.
