Caretaker

Nelson College for Girls is seeking a proactive and practical person to fulfil the role of Caretaker / Kaitiaki, to ensure that our buildings, other fixtures, fittings, and property are maintained to the highest level.

We are looking for someone that is at ease communicating with numerous different people during the day, involving various stakeholders, contractors, staff, and students.  You need to be proactive in brainstorming ideas with your team, resulting in solutions that will have addressed the bigger picture, resulting in long term remediation. As you go about your day you need to maintain a professional level of communication /kōrero along with always having a friendly demeanour, good sense of humour, and a real sense of leaving the day, knowing you have achieved all you can. 

You will need to have a good level of fitness, ability to work autonomously, excellent time management awareness and lots of initiative. In going about your day as well as being hands-on and practical you will need to be computer literate as you will be using several on-line property systems and operating systems using cellular apps. 

You will be an integral part of the Nelson College for Girls team and active in ensuring the efficient operation of our Kura facilities, undertaking general caretaking and relevant maintenance work as required, completing health and safety checks, organising, and undertaking small projects, liaising with trades people and staff. You will also be responsible for day-to-day operations of the school heating system (boiler) and the swimming pool. 

This is a permanent full-time position, 40 hours per week, 7:30am - 4:00pm including school holidays. We may consider making this a job share position, if this was of interest, please indicate this in your cover letter.
