Kitchen Co-ordinator - Young Parent School

The Young Parents’ School is based at Auckland Point School and offers the opportunity for young parents in the Nelson region to continue their secondary education by providing a teaching and learning environment alongside childcare facilities.  

The Kitchen Co-ordinator role is a key position at the Young Parents’ School, providing lunches to our students as part of the Healthy School Lunches programme.  This role is 4 hours per day, making a total of 20 hours per week during term time only on a fixed term for the remainder of 2026.  

You will work alongside the Head Teacher to create an approved menu. You will be responsible for all kitchen and food related tasks which will include but is not limited to: 

  • ordering 

  • preparing 

  • serving/portioning 

  • safe storage 

  • cleaning  

You will need to be sensitive to allergies and possess a healthy, creative outlook on food. Nutritional knowledge and food handling qualifications or experience would be advantageous along with an understanding of the Ka Ora, Ka Ako Healthy School Lunch programme guidelines. 

You will also be responsible for the administration required to run the programme, which will involve putting together food plans, reporting, financials, and budgeting.
